Monkey Fun

Taking Responsibility

For months now, when Caleb comes to visit, he makes it a point
to "flip and switch" the sticks in the fragrance atomizers in a couple of rooms.
As of today, there are now notes posted on the doors to the guest bath
and my StudyO, reminding me to"flip and switch".
Guess he's decided I'm big enough to start taking care of this myself.
What a guy!

Painting the House

One of our play-activities last week was "painting the house".
Here Caleb has tagged places on the bathroom wall
where the paint needs some touching up.
He is quite thorough!

Simple Toys = Simple Joys

It doesn't take much to keep this boy entertained!
A garage-sale find when Caleb was our first little grand...
("Rrmmmm-Rrmmmm")
Plastic bowls and a cheap sprinkler head...
Old plastic pots for dumping or drumming...
A long wooden spoon for ringing chimes
when you feel like it.

LIFE IS GOOD!

For Old Times Sake

Our dishwasher died a few weeks ago.

Since then, I have washed every dish by hand
using the broken dishwasher as an over-qualified drainboard.

I don't think I want to replace the dishwasher.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the sensation
of having my hands in soapy water,
going through the motions without having to concentrate.

It's definitely a right-brain activity
and feels more like a ritual than a chore,
at least for now.

Stay tuned!

Good Read

The Sandalwood Tree
Elle Newmark

After reading another of Newmark's novels, I emailed her to tell her how much I had enjoyed the book.  Believe it or not, she actually responded to my email with a very newsy note detailing some of what had been going on in her life and looking forward to the release of her new novel, The Sandalwood Tree. I now feel like I actually have a connection with the author as I read her next book.

(Oh, and don't worry.  I can read AND watch an 18 month old at the same time,
even though it looks in the photo like he's MIA!)
