This little light...

During my self-imposed "down-time",
I must admit there are moments when I just want to scream,
"I'm wasting time here!"
In fact, this morning my prayer of impatience was,
"Good God!  Show me how in the world I am making a difference here!!"
It wasn't a sweet, pleading prayer.
It was an angry demand.
And yet...
When I went to check my emails, this is what I found:

Sarah,

Attached is a blog I get and thought it might have some meaning for you as the person writing this had his wife die earlier in the year.  But I had been wanting to drop you a line and this seemed to go with it.

Since Rob's death, I have followed you on your blog.  I have enjoyed watching you share of your travels and the time with your grandchildren.  But what I have enjoyed most is just watching you handle where you are and the reflections coming out of those experiences.  I have even shared some of your grief reflections with a member of the church who lost a husband in May.  They were most meaningful to her.

Another reason for emailing you is to affirm what you are doing and how you are doing it.  While I am not sure if there is a right or wrong way to deal with grief and loss, I do commend you for what you are doing.  Your ability to share, reflect, and put it all on the table is most amazing, because while I can reflect, I am not about to tell the world about it.  Yet, you do.  So I admire your beautiful reflections and the inner strength you have in sharing it.

You are blessed with a lot of gifts.  I have always known about your music talent, but I can now see your gift of writing.  Who knows, maybe there is a book in your future?

So, I am not a critic, but just a friend that wanted to affirm you for what your are doing and to say thank you for sharing as you do. Be blessed as you continue your life journey,

Barbara Brown Taylor writes
that there is a light which shines
in the darkness
and can therefore only be seen
in the darkness.
This is the place where as the Scripture says,
"Night will be no more," --
when even into the darkness the light shines,
and the light is more than sun shining,
or moon beaming,
or stars twinkling outside,
but is altogether the Very Light
of Very Light
glowing from within.
