So glad I showed up!

What a rich and wonderful time at 2nd B this morning!
The lyrics to Francesca Battistelli's "If We're Honest" were read
in Sunday School as part of a spontaneous outpouring
of honesty, love, and affirmation.

Then Charlie Johnson, former 2nd B pastor, reminded us of this in his
sermon entitled "God Is Not Dead!":
(I don't usually take notes in church, but...)

When we get too caught up in the frenzied details of our lives
(can you say, "Election"?),
we become "Functional Atheists".

Kierkegaard says we come to FAITH in three stages:

1 The Aesthetic Stage - because it feels good (the music, the ritual,
the welcoming people) and our immediate felt needs are me

2 Ethical Stage -  we are doing the right things, and
we are making the world a better place

3 Existential Stage - the leap of faith, of ultimate abandon and trust,
when there is nothing in this world we can grasp

All we can do is lay our burden down and cast ourself into God's love.
God is not afraid of tomorrow; nor should we be.
(see scripture about lilies/etc)

It is easy to get caught up in the world's
SPASMS OF FEAR.
Are we gonna be okay?
We will be just fine.

AMEN!
