Today Sawyer came out of my StudyO carrying an 8th grade art project
that his father made, and that I have kept for these 20+ years because I am a sentimental fool when it comes to hand-made-kid-gifts.
Through the years it has served as a pencil holder, a candle holder,
a feather holder, and most recently just a funky piece of pottery
on the shelf beneath my desk.
In this photo, Sawyer is sipping a make-believe beverage from it,
adding his trademark "ummm" at appropriate intervals.
While I was enjoying this Sawyer-moment, it dawned on me
that eighth-grade-Zack could never have imagined,
that eighth-grade-Zack could never have imagined,
while he was dutifully molding this required piece of artwork,
that one day a little piece of him
would be admiring it and appreciating its versatility.
We just never know, do we?
Indeed, not!
